MUSKI TRIPS Q&A
As a ski club, we love nothing more than getting out of the rat race and smashing the slopes! MUSKI ski trips are undoubtedly the best part of being a member, so keep reading to learn more about what we have to offer.
Which mountains do you ski at?
MUSKI runs multiple trips each year to our local Victorian mountains – Mt Buller, Hotham and Falls Creek. These mountains are only a couple of hours away from Melbourne CBD. Where possible, we also offer ski trips to Perisher in NSW, and the slopes of New Zealand.
Do you run any international trips?
MUSKI is offering trips to Queenstown NZ, and Hakuba in Japan in 2026! This marks our first return to Japow since 2019, and the crew is stoked to get amongst it. If you’re interested in seeing what Japan has to offer, stay tuned for the 2027 announcement!
How many trips do you run?
In 2026, MUSKI has locked in a massive 9 overnight ski trips (and 2 summer trips)! We also have day trips in the works, so whichever mountain you prefer, there’s something on offer for skiers (and snowboarders) of all kinds.
How many spots are there on each trip?
In 2026, the number of spots on each trip ranges from 20 to 60 people. We have nearly 400 spots in total, so there are plenty of chances to hit the slopes with MUSKI!
I haven’t skied before, can I still go on a trip?
No experience is needed to come on a MUSKI trip. We have plenty of members who have never even seen snow! They always come back from our trips talking about how much they loved it. Skiing is also fairly easy to pick up (it's similar to rollerblading and ice skating) and there is often a bunch of experienced skiers tagging along who can show you the ropes. Our members have a diverse range of skills and you will always find a couple of friends of similar ability to you on a trip.
What if I want to snowboard?
MUSKI welcomes skiers and boarders alike! All are welcome to attend, but our hire range only stocks skis — you’ll need to bring your own board (or hire from our sister club)!
I don’t know anyone from Muski but I want to go on a trip!
No worries! Many of our committee members knew no one at all before going on their first trip. It’s an amazing way to meet people and everyone is very welcoming and friendly! If you’re interested in meeting people before the snowy season hits, be sure to check out our Semester 1 social trips. Whichever trip you join, you’ll be sure to have an unforgettable time!
WHEN are the ski trips? How long are they?
Our ski trips follow the season from June until September and range from 2 to 7 nights. Week-long trips often occur during university winter holidays (so don’t worry about missing class). Our other trips mostly take place for 2-3 nights over weekends throughout the semester. Check out the 2026 trip lineup:
Hotham Week A: 12th July - 17th July
Buller Weekend: 17th July - 19th July
VIC IV Racing Trip @ Mt Buller: 20th July - 24th July
Buller Week: 26th July - 31st July

Hotham Week B: 17th August - 21st August

Can’t commit to an overnight trip? That’s fine! We have day trips in the works for those who just want a taste of the MUSKI fun. Details to come.

what does a trip ticket include?
The price of a trip includes accommodation, lift passes, transport via bus and a social package. It does not include ski/equipment hire, lessons, food or drinks, however, some lodges may provide breakfast.
full price vs social price - what’s the difference?
A full price ticket includes everything listed above, including lift passes.
Social tickets are a reduced rate ticket for members who have already purchased a season pass for that mountain. This means the Epic Pass (for trips to Mt Hotham, Falls Creek, or Perisher) and the Ikon Pass (for trips to Mt Buller or New Zealand). These tickets include accommodation, transport via bus and a social package but do not include lift passes.
What is the ‘social package’?
The social package is a small fee (included in your ticket) that covers the cost of games, props, drinks, and snacks provided by MUSKI. Organised with love by your trip leaders, it helps MUSKI afford the cost of social activities throughout the trip!
Why are ski trips so expensive?
Skiing itself is a very expensive sport, and the costs involved are rising each year. We understand that Uni students aren’t made of money, so we do our best to keep trips as cheap as possible and fair for all trip-goers. Try to look at MUSKI trips as an investment – you definitely won’t regret going on a trip!
What’s the go with ski hire?
MUSKI offers the cheapest ski hire in Victoria! No need to stress if you don’t have any gear — we can sort you out with skis, boots, poles and a helmet! Prices for our ski hire can be found here: www.muski.org/ski-hire
If you want to rent a snowboard, contact MUST at contact@mustsnowboard.com.au for hire.
I’m interested in racing, which trips should I go on?
Each year we try to run two racing trips – Victorian Intervarsity Championships (VIC IVs) and Snow Nationals. Both trips will have you competing against other universities in events such as slalom, giant slalom, super giant, skier-cross, boarder-cross, and slopestyle. You must be currently enrolled as a University of Melbourne student to participate in either trip.
If you’re new to racing and just want to try it out, VIC IVs is the trip for you! The racing events are fun and social, so don’t feel pressured if you haven’t done it before. If you can ski down a blue run comfortably, you can attend VICs. Race during the day, ski with your mates after the events and party hard with 200 other students at night… what more could you want?
If you’re more experienced with racing and have competed before, then Snow Nationals is for you! Catered for more advanced skiers, Snow Nationals gives you the opportunity to represent The University of Melbourne at a higher level. Previous racing experience is recommended and there is a qualification process in order to participate. Let’s claim that trophy!
